Real useful feature for a full youtube experience.

Not intuitive. I paste URL into the window and it opens up my Firefox browser which says it's unsupported.
This widget SUCKS BALLS. Get your head out of your ass before you release something that's not compatible! I am deleting. Stay away - far away. Who knows, this may even be Malware. I am reporting this to Opera.

This is an awesome widget. Thanks for this information. I am not able to watch sometimes videos from youtube . I think this Downloader can help me out  I've also tried this widget for this site http://www.edogo.com/ while watching some of the TV Shows. Really helpful. Guys must use this widget for any video.

im surprised that i havent seen anybody post about this before me.

but it seems that every video downloaded using this thing gets an advertisement layered over the actual video. so you end up with the video you wanted, and part of the screen is taken up with an ad that you didnt.

i didnt see any type of warning or anything like that, it just silently brands downloads. sneaky, and more than a little bit useless.

the comment by 84user regarding "http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25105" is much appreciated. and this widget is getting the lowest possible rating from me... nor am i suggesting it to friends any more.

we've submitted new update which works with Youtube more than three weeks ago. We're still waiting when someone from Opera team will review it. We don't know why it so long....
If you use Opera 11+ Try our toolbar which already fixed and works

Further notes from my tests of this widget. In brief, I am uninstalling this because its problems outweigh any possible usefulness it may have. Also, as there exist working download scripts for both Firefox and Opera this widget appears unnecessary. See http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25105 for a good example I have recently tested.

Although the widget does download small videos I have found it has these problems:

1. It hangs after network loss - I reported this as a bug with more details, see http://widgets.opera.com/bug/5061/

2. download progress is not shown - this is essential for users to know the state of the download

3. it runs as a separate application and is not integrated within the browser - this prevents its use within the browser window where the user is active

4. it requires the user to copy and paste the video URL - this is rather user-unfriendly and some form of helpful link from the video page would be expected

5. it requires the user to type out the destination filename - even a default filename and extension would be more helpful here

6. high memory and CPU use - in my tests it was using over 600 megabytes of memory and 35% of CPU (growing from an inintial 90 megabytes and 10% CPU) - this is significantly higher than other downloaders tested. The Firefox script 25105 consumes less than 1% (if that) and no noticeable memory beyond the 94 megabytes already used by Firefox's plugin container (downloading several videos at once does not increase these numbers so it appears the download process itself consumes negligible CPU). As an example I am using the firefox script to download three large videos at once and the CPU load is still less than 1% and the memory use does not grow at all.

7. It can only download one video at a time.

I installed the widget Flash Video Downloader 2.2 on Opera 11.11 and tested it on YouTube.

Clicking the cancel button sometimes has no effect.

Sometimes the widget continues displaying the "downloading" message when all network traffic has ceased. This appears to happen with longer videos.

Tests on Opera:

1. the short 15 second video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXtk06d27Jg downloaded as "low" flv
(a) the widget displays the URL truncated after the "?" character
(b) it did download a playable flv video at 360p size

2. the short 15 second video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXtk06d27Jg downloaded as "high" mp4
(a) the widget displays the URL truncated after the "?" character: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?"
(b) it did download a playable mp4 video at 720p size

3. I tried the longer 23 minute video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIMZ_CmAseY but it never gets to the dialog to choose the format. I tried three times, same non-result.

4. I tried the 3 minute NASA video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ri9Ra30FhA and the format dialog appears immediately, I chose the "low" flv and after 10 minutes the video downloaded and was playable.

5. To test download speed I compared downloading the 2 minute 40 second tiltrotor video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwbWZSezwz4 via YouTube directly and via this widget:
(a) direct download of the 240p size format took 1 minute 40 seconds and at bandwidth 500 kbps
(b) widget download of the 6.3 MB 240p size format took 2 minutes 20 seconds and at bandwidth 400 to 500 kbps (strange result)
(c) direct download of the 360p size took 1 minute 20 seconds and at bandwidth 900 kbps
(d) widget download of the 10.8 MB 360p size took 1 minute 55 seconds and at bandwidth 700 to 800 kbps
(e) Using Firefox to direct download the 360p size took 1 minute 42 seconds and at bandwidth 700 to 800 kbps

6. I tried the 23 minute "Shadow of Israphel" video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akWW_2lZTxo but the download traffic ceased after about 10 minutes with the widget continuing to display "Downloading".

I repeated some of these tests with the Firefox 4.0.1 add-on download helper 4.9.1 and got similar but slightly faster timing results.

The big differences are: (a) the Firefox add-on is in the browser window and requires just two clicks and no typing to get the filename right, (b) the download progress is shown in the normal browser download window, (c) no separate application is needed, (d) Firefox add-on lets you download several videos at once - is this possible with this Opera widget?

I've been using Download Helper on Firefox for downloading all my youtube/google videos it seemed simpler but downloading this application seems simple enough. Copy/paste the url is easy enough. I might give it a try as Opera is a much faster browser than FFox.

Takes me to page to download a program.

I consider that virus activity or spam. Widget uninstalled. It works or it doesnt. I shouldnt have to download a program.
