WorldWebcams, Opera application V2.7 May 24, 2008 5:01:34 AM

Widget to search and display webcams all over the world.

This widget takes almost all of the functionality of the http://webcams.travel/ website and puts it in widget form. It has four main areas: Map, Tags, Details, and Favorites. You can search for webcams near a given location or by tag, and select one to view more information on the Details tab. You can also add it to your favorites, which allow you to view all of your favorite webcams on one screen.

*new in 2.5 - F12 toggles full map mode on and off.

v1.1 - Now remembers which tab you were looking at when you closed the widget. Also minor graphical update, code cleanup.
v1.2 - included all updated files in upload
v1.3 - fix some minor map issues.
v2.0 - integrated tags into widget.
v2.1 - added images to dynamically indicate if search results can be scrolled up or down.
v2.2 - css fixes, URLs 9.5 compatible, widget icon, check for latest version, hande no tag results.
v2.3 - bugfix
v2.5 - toggle map controls, full map view, handle other languages, other misc fixes.
v2.6 - map resumes from location when it was closed; mini mode; help has version number and link to download page.
v2.7 - some cosmetic and UI fixes, addressed most of the issues from HaJotKE below.

This is a great gajizmo for all you lonely road warriors and mobile types. Just bookmark your favorite webcam of say, San Francisco, or, Canton, Oh-hi-O....er...make that Canton, Georgia. Or, is it Canton, Kansas? Anyways...this free gajizmo is comforting, if not useful. You can just stare out in the bright NYC skyline courtesy of your favorite NYC webcam while you remind yourself that you have only twenty seven thousand lines of codes left to write and you can one day finally go back home to your SoHo loft and eat your month old pizza left over the day before you left. Enjoy!

By comeprima , # Sep 4, 2008 11:48:31 AM

NO NO NO none of the cams are live its like 1998 all over again, with all the cams in the uk
updating onece every hour, and even all the ones around newyork, good idea but you could
have used the earthcam sites cams,http://webcams.travel/ sies cams just dont cut it,this
is 2008 and we want live streaming cams, not some JPEG updated every hour rubbish,I have
seen faster home cams on dial up than the ones on http://webcams.travel/ this company
needs to catch up,but having said that your widget is good its just the cams it links to that are
the problem.

Sorry, I only now observed that there's a new version 2.7 out since some days, because I didn't get any message about that, always been using V2.6... :frown:
Help information also still telling about V2.6 only...
... but I checked in the folder, I've got V2.7 now!

Thanks for all the other 'fixations' however!
Will now thoroughly check everything.

No innuendo intended! :D

BTW, there are no 'Details' showing any more, did the cam-site change something?

By HaJotKE , # Jun 3, 2008 8:04:04 PM

HaJotKE, in 2.7:
1. Fixed
2. Fixed
3. Fixed
4. Fixed - now display like favorites
5. I found an error with the Nearby box, but otherwise couldn't reproduce anything. Let me know if you're still having issues here.
6. Fixed - names are trimmed now.
7. Fixed
8. I don't think I can override/control this.
9. I see this sometimes in 9.5 as well (also lots of hover issues now too), but not in 9.2. I'm hoping they will resolve themselves by the final 9.5 build.

Ikoma, I think to see real time you need to actually go to the source site, not webcams.travel. It only refreshes the images every 15 min or something.

By ja002h , # May 19, 2008 3:25:13 AM

why do i get the feeling its just a picture ? i cant see movement at all tryed. london - tokyo all cams from thoes 2 places please tell me whats going on ?

By Ikoma , # May 19, 2008 1:07:07 AM

... Continuation: >

>7. That's somewhat unexpected, especially because I can't change it in F12 full map viewing mode... :frown:

8. Being in said full map view, one is able to zoom in and out according to the OPERA browser zooming method using the + and - keys of the numerical pad (and switching back to normal with * key), now toggling back to normal map view in some zoom state however by F12 makes the widget look ugly, because it's loosing parts of its frames...
This is also cosmetics only.

9. Another beauty only issue:
when pressing the Details or Favourites or Tags buttons for the first time, their outline is disappearing, returning however after going back to the Map button and staying from then on...

Sorry, I am still such a nit-picker... p:

REMARK:
#3 doesn't happen any more, M/B it was an artefact of myOPERA site's downtime, which I additionally misinterpreted; thinking it over again, I also can't really find a reasonable way for such a thing.

By HaJotKE , # Apr 11, 2008 6:48:42 AM

Thanks for your note! :D

#3 is fixed now, on the Map page! Not however if you switch to the Details page of the widget and stay there for a while...

5. I promised this!
When checking out several web-cams (e.g. those from user "jhstha" I am looking to, currently) on the Details page the title designations get mixed up after switching between various cams, they lag behind one step. Sort of refresh error...

6. Some cosmetic issue on the Favorites page: the close buttons are always positioned according to the smallest cam window shown therein, not adapted to other sizes if you have several cam windows. The resizing of these cam window frames is obviously following the cam designation texts shown above the cam images. If those texts could be made to appear outside of those cam window frames, these thus having always identical sizes all would be fine, I believe. However it should be taken care of different lengths of those designation texts by wrapping longer text lines then, or clipping them appropriately...

7. When I press F12 in the Map page to enter full map view, the scale is shifting considerably from what I have in the current view.

Continuation see above...

By HaJotKE , # Apr 11, 2008 6:42:19 AM

Suggestions noted, I'll take care of them sometime in the next couple weeks. I thought about #4 when I created the widget, but to be honest didn't want to make the extra effort at the time to put in that info.
Fixed #3, I forgot to change the code to check for 2.6 instead of 2.5, so I just changed the file it checks online to be 2.5 instead of 2.6. Hopefully I'll change both places next time.

By ja002h , # Apr 9, 2008 5:38:49 AM

thank!!! a lot

By khoabachpro , # Apr 8, 2008 2:59:06 PM

Having now used V2.6 quite some time, I would like to express my gratitude for this great OPERA widget here!

Some minor issues:
1. "Window Controls:
There are 3 buttons in the top right corner. The leftmost will reload the widget,..."
... now there are 4 buttons, and the leftmost... and a middle one is not there any more... :D
Just kidding, but this should be amended to its newest state.
2. Please also put a close button at the bottom of the help page, because having finished reading makes the top button disappear or at least get out of sight... usability is my obsession!
3. It's always asking for an upgrade, although I do have the newest version; or what's going on? Do I have to uninstall older versions?
... and if acknowledging that alert dialog by OK, it's not going away, the pop-up stays still sticking there...
4. When I visit webcams selected by tags, I am getting a list with cams and their real time images, which is really great - but I can't see which cam is what for and from where. Some information when hovering the mouse as tool-tip e.g. or somehow else would be fine, I believe. p:
5. ... to come!
