Yarr! V1.0 Dec 3, 2007 5:09:40 PM

A pirate game for children to improve their arithmetic skills.

The objective of Yarr!, is to amass the biggest quantity of booty, represented by golden dubloons.

You earn dubloons by finding treasures that are hidden on the islands. Which island the treasure is hidden on, is your job to find out.

Some of the islands you visit will have old pirates living on them, who, if you can answer their questions correctly, will help you find your way to the treasure. They will give you clues to things you can find, or not find, on the treasure island.

You do however not have as long as you like. Every visit to a new island takes one day, and you only have food for a set amount of days, so be careful or you may have to return to land empty handed. Food for a day costs 100 dubloons, so if you don't find enough treasure you may just run out.

I love the concept because my kids are at the right age for math practice. However, it seems a little buggy in that even if I get the right island based on the clue I can't visit that island until I collect other clues that are only useful because they provide the math practice.

Thanks for the educational widget. Refreshing. Cool looking. Added it to my homeschooled daughter's desktop (7 yrs old). Mouse/movement delay on my computer - so slow moving - probably my computer though...I like your graphics...

I just tested it out a bit - for readers reading comments: this is more like a guessing game than a strategy game. Basically, you pick one of a choice of islands. Some will do nothing, one will prompt you with a math question (the two I got were 10-5 and 13-3).....then after the question is answered, you get a clue about which island the treasure is on...then you get points and i guess the whole thing starts over again - just tested it for a short time...don't know yet if it builds up difficulty levels or not. Power Game-using children will find this slow moving but I think it's a great supplemental educational tool for fun, especially for homeschoolers.

Would be cool to have different levels or subjects.

Thanks for a cool widget that keeps our kids' brains in mind!
