What is the use of this widget ? I don't get it. Is this real permissions on files or just to demonstrate what the chmod numbers mean.

It is a cool idea; but it doesn't work for me, either (nix). Like justakiwi, i can only see the fields for perms, not the numeric output.

This is a cool idea but it doesn't work properly in DesktopBSD. The widget will not resize so that all the fields are visible - I can only see the owner, group and part of other, fields. Can't even see the chmod field at the bottom.
