MySearch V1.0 Dec 28, 2006 4:24:40 AM

The search widget is dead. Long live the search widget. This widget will allow you to add and remove searches at will, thus allowing you to create virtually any search widget you like, or have all your favorites in one place. If you'd like a new widget for an individual site, just copy the widget files, change the name in config.xml, add your site, and voila, a new widget!

I like this widget.

One problem I see is that after I added another website to search on, I found that the new website-search-option goes away if I close the widget and re-open it, or if I have to reboot your computer for some reason.

Is the widget meant to allow you to save new websites permanently? Or is your intention merely to allow the world to download the widget and alter the widget itself to meet one's personal needs?

"I still don't see the point in any of these search widgets"

I don't disagree. Nevertheless, people keep creating them for different sites. My aim here was to allow those people that prefer to search by widget to avoid recreating the wheel. Just take this widget, add the search you want, and you're done.

Or you can just add searches the way Opera does it natively, and save yourself a bunch of time...

I still don't see the point in any of these search widgets, unless it attempts to do multiple searches at once in their own tabs with one query, like I think Opera should implement natively. Other than that, this is kind of useless, to be honest.

Hm, I might be able to do that. It looks like you can just copy the URL that's in there and substitute "test 123" for "%s". The only concern I have is that won't guarantee that it searches for multiple words correctly (i.e. some sites do word1-word2-word3, some do word1+word2+word3, etc.).

.. Actually, another problem I see is that at least in my file, there is no name listed, so you'd have to go back and edit all of them to add a name anyway, or I'd at least have to prompt you for a name for each one. Not out of the question, but...

If anyone has more thoughts on parsing search.ini automatically, please jump in.

This is a neat widget. Is there any way to import from search.ini?
