Opera Bible V1.0 Nov 9, 2006 1:13:46 AM

This little widget displays random verses of scriptured. It was requested by somebody on the operawatch.com forum.

Doesn't cover the entire bible, many more verses will be added as I update!

Fantastic! God bless you and please keep on adding verses.

To those going on about / complaining about the KJV of the Bible, the KJV is public domain in the USA and some other places (not here in the UK) and so there is no need for payment. If somebody wants to use other versins then they may have to pay, that is reason one. Reason two, the KJV is widely accepted and even though I personally prefer NKJV and The Message... reason 3, GOD cannot be put in a box, He will not let His book be altered (bar the cults) and makes many versions to speak to individuals. Less theology and more action!

Great widget!

I think that this widget is a good one for people that would be interested in the public domain version of the Bible.

King James is actually a very good translation, but of a corrupt original text. The authoritative version of Scripture at that time was the Vulgate, the Latin Bible. The Old Testament was the translated into Latin from what was called the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the original Hebrew. Erasmus, a 16th century humanist, decided to create a Bible from the best available original sources, so he used the Tanach, the Hebrew Old Testament, and for the New Testament he gathered together as much as he could of the scraps of the Greek New Testament (hundreds of fragments were available at that time. Many, many more have since been discovered.) and for the missing pieces (the passages and, in some cases, nearly entire books for which there was no extant Greek text at the time) he did an interesting thing: he translated the Vulgate (the Latin, which, originally was translated from the Greek) back into Greek. The 1611 KJV, the "authorized version" was then a beautiful Elizabethan translation of: the original Hebrew for the OT and, for the NT, a hodgpode of Greek and Latin which had been translated from Greek which was then retranslated back into Greek. The only thing "authorize

I cannot change the version. I wanted the Good News translation, or the Jerusalem Bible or the New American Bible. Even the Douay Rheims would've been nice. I guess until you change the versions, I am going to go elsewhere. Its hard to find affordable Bible study software that includes Catholic Bibles.

I know this will fall on deaf ears but unless you have the original Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic text, ALL others are translations or revisions. People do the best they can with the language they are using in their time and place. In some instances there are no direct or perfect translations from the original languages. I use the KJV along with other translations but remember, the Bible was written long before 1611. Study the original text and see for yourself.

I'm looking for Bible software, not really sure if this is what I'm looking for, but I currently use a Bible in HTML format from johnhurt.com, think I'll continue looking for the moment.

Any chance of a version for us pastifarians?

I wonder if you could use the http://www.greekbiblestudy.org/ database... It has great study capabilities. You could probably partner with http://www.biblememory.us/ to send memory verses by widget, too.

Personally, I don't find the random verses concept all that useful (I already have the BibleMemory.us Emails), especially since no memory (like that of BibleMemory.us's) or study (like GreekBibleStudy.org's) tactic is applied. But don't think that I disagree with your endeavor; press on!

Marvelous, indeed..wish Firefox had something like this. I'm new to Opera, the more I see I like it alot. It seems to be more stable than FF at times. One thing, Please , I beg you, in the name of Jesus, stay with only the KJV, all other versions are perversions.

Thanks guys. I've never posted a comment on here back to you all. I'm glad you like the widget.. I'm going to have a little go at updating and expanding it.. to make it look nicer and to perhaps add a little search box where you can search verses! But i'm a bit busy at the moment with school work and my upcoming exams.. Keep checking back though!

Hey I love this widget. Could you make it "multi-versioned"?
Also, I don't know about everybody else, but comments (like from Florian7 and JoanRC) shouldn't be put here. Just because they don't agree with this widget, doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist.

Anyway, You go kcleworth! Keep the faith!
