In Asteroids, your goal is to destroy as many asteroids as you can.
Every destroyed asteroid will grant you points. When you run out of lives, you can save your score to the online highscore list!
Control your ship with... Accelerate: up arrow Turn left: left arrow Turn right: right arrow Shoot: Control Pause game: enter
Notes: - while your ship is blinking, you're invincible. - you get a new life every 10.000 points
The widget will show a message if there's a new version available.
Any suggestions? Ideas? Post a comment!
version 1.2: - autofire when you hold down ctrl - added pause (enter key) - added max firing speed - added invincibility on new level so asteroids won't destroy you if they spawn on you - you will now get a new life every 10.000 points - made invincibility blink faster - screen ratio is now 4:3 instead of 1:1
version 1.1: - added explosions when your ship blows up or you destroy an asteroid - changed the bullets to slightly larger ones - added version update checker

I downloaded this widget in my pc and in my laptop, but is in my laptop where it looks very slow, why is that?, is that because im using ubuntu?
: Great! Although the invincibility flash needs to be a little faster. When I first started playing I thought it was a bug in your widget that the animation was disappearing
I use 1600x1200 so it might be that. However, it seems to me that the shots should really be the same "width" as the lines which make up the ship. This would appear more natural to me.
I'll wait to check out your next version and get in contact with you. My own version had been aiming for 4:3 you see
I knew I had forgotten something from the widget description.. being the controls .. added now.
Sure, I can make the shots larger. They are currently 1 pixel in size, but they are quite well visible at least here on my end. Could be that if you use a huuuge resolution they might be difficult to see.
Yeah, needs an explosion all right. I'll add that in the next update.
No "hyper space" in this one, could be added though. I couldn't decide whether or not put it in yet.
No alien ship either. I've been tinkering with the code a bit for adding it though. And haven't really thought about the screen ratio thing... I could try and see how it would look
Honest: I had actually thought about, and eventually discarded, the idea of making an asteroids widget in favour of another classic game I wish to reproduce. I even worked on my version for an hour or so and have the files on my desktop still!
There are some problems with this widget yet, but it's a GREAT start! Good going!
My comments: - Needs obvious instructions. For a few minutes after downloading the widget, I did not know what the fire button was.
- The "shots" need to be a little larger. They are very hard to see.
- Currently, when an asteroid passes over you, you just lose a life and your ship doesn't do anything. There should be some kind of explosion animation, where your ship vanishes for a couple seconds then reappears.
- In my old games of asteroids, I remembered having thrusters and a "hyper-space" ability. Do these exist in this widget?
- I didn't play all that long, so I am still wondering if there is the good-ol alien spaceship as well!
- IMHO, I think it would be nicer if the screen was the old 4:3 of the original rather than a square.
If you'd like to collaborate on this and continue developing the game, I w
