Whether anime enthusiast, closet linguist, or serious student of the Japanese, Chinese, or Korean languages, learning the basic Japanese, Chinese, or Korean characters (kanji, hanzi, hanja, as well as hiragana and katakana, and hangul) is fun and useful for everyone! You can also use the quiz feature for testing your knowledge or practice. This widget will ensure you get your daily dose of mental training.
Zotlan: thanks! You can set it to show a new character every hour at most. If you want to see more characters than that you can use browse manually by clicking on the arrow buttons at the bottom. I can add more frequent automatic update options too if you want that.
seifip: that's the opera widgets platform bug on windows that's been keeping me from making this widget available for anything but mac os for many months... not really sure why fixing that seemingly trivial bug (in opera) should take more than half a year.
The latest version (revision 5) runs on all platforms (even though the platform bug is still there, so fades on buttons look funkey). Also fixed the bug mentioned by zomg above, and sped up fading between cards and some other fades.
Anyway, last time I checked the png images with an alpha channel looked really horrible when changing the opacity on the div element they're in. Note that I'm not a Mac user myself. I use the popup window version on http://henrikfalck.com/kanjioftheday/ that works on all platforms.
Good job finding that bug. I hadn't tried or thought of that myself.
Exactly what is the reason you're stopping everyone else except Mac users from using this widget? Racism I say! =)
I killed your platform check from the JS and it works just fine.. Opera 9.01 and Win XP here.
Excellent widget otherwise! The only gripe I have is that the animations could be a bit faster when changing cards and such.
Also I noticed there seemed to be a bug when doing a quiz... answer and when it's displaying the correct answer, click on one of the answers and the next character is just skipped. Doesn't really bother, though.
