A virtual ruler! It's a useful tool for web designers and maybe for others too Simply click the grid in two places to measure the distance between the points (in pixels). To remove the points, click again. You can create straight lines with Shift key. You have to right click this widget to close it, because it covers the whole screen.
A simpler version of the ruler is included for Linux users, because widgets on Linux have problems with transparency. It will be detected and enabled automatically if you don't use Windows or Mac.
I think it would be more usefull if you can mesure more than only from point A to B
For example, over a google map tracking various points A, B, C, D, E - And then giving a clue that point Y to Z is 10 miles, and with that information give you the total A to E point in miles...
Nice and useful widget. Tips for usage with the mouse: Right click to toggle between "Always on top" and "Always below" to work with your application windows. If it is Always on top you can click anywhere on the screen, if it is Always below you have to click on some visible part of the desktop (maybe you'd have to restore or minimize your application windows).
Usage with keyboard is even easier: Use "Normal" instead of Always on top / Always below and toggle the Widget or the application you want to measure on top with ALT+TAB.
You only have to close the Widget if you want to access the desktop itself or if you don't need the Widget any more.
This is really useful. Now i don't have to open the other on-screen ruler application everytimes i wanted to measure something in a web page. Thank You
I used to enjoy this great widget but since Op. 9 there are problems: It just doesn't work properly, whether normal or always on top I can hardly click the grid, mostly it behaves as if the ruler/grid was not there... Strange because before it worked okay, I could measure pictures etc. Now it seems I have to click precisely on the line of the grid, which is bothering and cannot help with measuring objects... Can you help me? I use Windows XP and latesr Opera.
Hah, nice to see other PuppyOpera users around. Awesome widget, as it works under windows - small and very functional. Thanks, grafio!
I'd also really like to use it that way under linux. The current linux version is pretty useless for me. What matters most is not the overlayed grid but the ability to draw a line and measure its length in any direction.
I love having the ruler and graph. I am a quilter, sew, knit and crochet. and I like to make my own patterns. this is very helpful. and alot of fun to use. would be neet if it made conversions or could draw diagonal. but I love it. thank you.
I'm trying to use this widget on Linux (Puppy version), and it's not working. You can DL a live CD of Puppy with the Opera browser, to see for yourself. I hope this info helps you!
really nice. I think this tool could be a point of start for a nice widget development.
e.g. - it could be enhanced by capturing the #HEC color you're clicking on - One button somewhere in the space to abort - some loop function, to be more precise. - working on multiple monitors
For example, over a google map tracking various points A, B, C, D, E - And then giving a clue that point Y to Z is 10 miles, and with that information give you the total A to E point in miles...
