Resource Grabber V1.61 Jun 8, 2006 4:28:50 AM

A tool to grab resources from various sites.
Type in the address in the text field and click go!
You can optionally write the data to a new tab for future reference.

For example you could grab the images off yahoo.com without visiting the site itself! Or for example get embedded media data from a site(converted to links). Enjoy!

PS: There is a known bug/issue with some url's not working, when fixed I'll update.

Whats new in 1.5: You can match resources based upon a text string now, the dropdown selection is saved, & with keepvid service you can get download links for popular video sharing sites.
Changes in 1.6: A border is around the widget frame now, if the element doesn't have a title/alt/rel attribute, then the file name will be used, better feedback when no specified data is found & links from keepvid have a file extension beside it or the instructions & file extension beside it.
1.61-- Status field font changed to menu, bug fix for status of the request(so it doesn't go on forever).

Cool!

Great but one disadventage - instead of images I have only the "Image" texts, as on the site with images displaying off.

I like this, I think it's quite useful, although I agree, I wish I could actually use the pictures in some way instead of browsing them, but still interesting concept, I think this could grow quite nicely.

I wish it can drag and drop images to it (to a small basket maybe) then it automatically will be saved a specified folder. It would be great.
Do you think to add this function for future releases?

1. Widgets don't have access to any of opera's open tabs or its UI.
2. I'll see what I can do, I basically so far try to get the title or the alt attribute or the textContent of the element that is specified.
3. Can't do this myself, however, if you click write, then open opera's links panel(ctrl + 9), then select all links there then right click >> save to download folder. (soon enough I may plan to make a page that make buttons to change default download folder location)

Here is a button that selects all links and quick downloads them (if the code works on a comment) place it in the links panel toolbar. >v

I found the code in the zip file, the js is horrendous. could you update the varible names to what they actually represent like 'filetype' instead of just 'a'.Perhaps you could comment it so I can modify it for myself. Or if you like to have utter controll over your baby look at downthemall.net. Its a firefox plugin that does alot of what you are trying to do.

Suggested Features:

Grab the url from the current open page.

Develop a better way to name your links i keep on getting 'a' whn perhaps the linkname could be used

and to reiterate a download all option that spits directly to the transfer dialogue without me having to click on 'save' in a dialogue box

why isnt the source for these widgets posted anywhere,

By loboc, # Jun 27, 2006 7:44:51 AM

The interface for links needs improvement to give the name of the linked files.
there also needs to be a download all option for linked files matching a text string

By loboc, # Jun 27, 2006 7:43:35 AM

well it cant grab links from a page to different images and download that though a bit nice one...

I agree, this is an excellent widget, but I feel it needs some improvements to the UI and some general improvements to its appearance. A progress indicator would be useful as well as a border around the widget frame

Thanks, for the improvement

I was about to ask exactly what Jadd did.

Another thing, just like the site keepvid.com, resource grabber shows multiple download links for google videos. But the website shows file type in side parentheses, but the widget only shows four download links. Please include file type too.

For example try this URL inside the widget http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4319256606292930218&q=Cricket

PS: this is an excelent widget, the problem is there is a lot of scope for improvement - simply because of the area you have touched. Very likely, people will want to use it instead of download bots p:

You misunderstood me. In a normal web page - not a widget - some images you can't right-click and save, because they're not <img>s but backgrounds defined in a css file, like in www.csszengardens.com.

By Jadd, # Jun 15, 2006 9:02:17 PM

You cannot right click on an image in a widget as the widget menu overrides almost everything but text boxes, the write to tab function is there because of it  So Get the images to be displayed in the widget, then click the button labelled "write"

By shoust, # Jun 15, 2006 3:58:37 PM

I thought this widget would get the images that you can't right-click and choose 'save image...' because they're background pictures, but it doesn't. Try 'get images' on www.csszengardens.com for example. Please include this as soon as possible.

1.5 -- Allows of getting download links from popular video sharing sites, the list can be found in the dropdown of this site. http://keepvid.com/

By shoust, # Jun 15, 2006 0:48:12 AM

It will be considered yes.

By shoust, # Jun 9, 2006 8:23:16 PM

A nice widget, I am sure I can use it. BTW, can you make this widget (or make a new widget) get links for flv files from youtube or google videos? At present I use user scripts to do that.

The script here http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=129509&t=1149806622&page=1#comment1554013 works with YouTube for example.
