Viking Reminder, Opera application V1.1 Jun 5, 2006 6:04:32 AM

Who needs Samurai when you have Vikings? This fearsome warrior will remind you of anything that needs reminding. Double-click him to configure.

He demonstrates the new window.moveTo functions in Opera 9 weekly (8455 in Windows), and he can even accept and display messages from other widgets! (Demo widget available here) Message sending no longer available due to security upgrades in latest versions of Opera 9.

I regularly use Viking to remind me to stop my tea stewing
The only problem is that I have to keep changing the time from '00:00'; it gets a bit boring after a while!

So I've had a play with the HTML page to add a bit of code that auto sets the time field to the current computer time. Oh, and then add five minutes to allow the tea to brew and include an appropriat eset of messages.

Is it appropriate to post the code change here?

I also found a small sound clip of John Cleese yelling "Tea's Ready! - tho' hearing the Viking yelling in a posh English voice is a little strange <grin>
I could share that too...

I don't need sound - running Viking is better
but:

- it should be good if You can make option to hide Viking (run out of screen maybe, when he isn't needed, and he could run in when it's time to remind something)

- List of couple of tasks, not only "every X minutes" & "at". You know, when I want write down few tasks it would be better write it at once, not one after one when Viking remind me one of them

- You should add "new line" code to Vikings text, like this:

Hello, it's 2:23, time to:

"<text of the task>"

but it's very cool, peace

Fantastic little widget, thanks Chris for the sound tip.Just a question is there a way to set multiple reminders? without downloading 2 or 3 times.if there isnt it does seem quite a waste,Cheers

I tried everything. I cannot get the sounds to work. Tried Chris suggestion but no success. Are there any more suggestions to get the sound to work.
Thanks

Quick fix for not having sound, simply right click, select always on top.

By Socrarrincha , # Aug 3, 2006 1:06:49 PM

You need to drag it to your browser, like you drag files from one folder to another, when you drop it onto Opera, the widget will open and there should be sound.

Now you might want to delete soundless widget, so with unziped widget open (and the ziped closed) go to manage widgets, there you should see two Viking reminders, unziped Viking and other widgets that you have open will be shown in bold, so delete one that is not in bold

It is really great, something I'd missed. When unzipped where to place the confing file? I placed to opera under program files, then removed from the list of widgets but couldnt find any more. Some help?
