Play daily crossword puzzles on your desktop!

The Daily Crossword widget uses the Across Lite format. Load daily puzzles from Thinks.com, the Los Angeles Times, CrosSynergy, the Sydney Morning Herald and Fred Piscop's archive. You can also directly input Across Lite .puz URLs you find online to load any games you want!

Click the disk icon to have the widget save your progress as you type, even if you close the widget by accident. Convenient slide-out Clues and Keyboard tabs are there when you need them, and gone when you don't. Now includes a minimize ability!

Fixed mousewheel/arrow-key widget scrolling issue
Added minimize ability
Changed menu links from text to icons
Fixed doubled shadow when keyboard tab is closed
Extended puzzle request timeout to 10 seconds

That is a good idea, aboy0110. I have been very busy developing another widget which should appear on the site soon. Hopefully I will get to this after that's up.

Oops! The widget should work now. Sorry about that. I haven't checked back here in a while. If it stops working again, please send me a my.opera.com message! That way I'll get to it sooner

The fix was in the server-side Ajax script so you don't need to download a new copy of the widget.

Duuuuude are you going to fix the widget? I haven't been able to use it in about a month. I'm going through crossword withdrawals.

Excellent widget, gets my vote. Unfortunately it looks like thinks.com have changed the URI puzzle link once again - since about mid June 2007 I've been unable to access ANY crosswords.

At first I thought it was because our network administrator was blocking the site but my system at home on a private broadband connection also exhibits the same behaviour.

Very nice work ! but.. backspace isn't working as expected. It erases one letter and moves to the next square, instead of the previous. Also delete should delete the current letter the push all letter after one square before.
Last but not least, it would be great if the widget could save the current progress in some puzzle !

Thinks.com has changed the URI format of the puzzle link. I will post an updated version of the widget today!

Sorry for taking so long to get to this.

EDIT: Problem fixed! As the widget requests the puzzle data through my website, there is no need to download a new version. Your existing version should work again.

I had the crossword widget up and running for months until now, it won't load correctly and the puzzle screen pops up and says there is an error. I tried re downloading it twice and the same thing happens.

Very nice. It would be great if it were possible to capture the "V" key, so it wouldn't try to enable voice every time I have a word with that letter... but I know that's not really doable.

You can now use the Enter key to change the selection orientation between across and down

Just a note, the tilde key is not available on all keyboards (FR: Ctrl+Alt+2), so it's difficult to toggle between across and down. By switching the input methos I solved this, but it's not very convenient.
May I suggest the forward slash key instead?
