Well in English paper terms I'm now tweaking up the 'final draft' of the autodetect feature, so taking a break from coding i decided to come up with plans for the rest of it, feel free to read what I put up on my blog and comment, i'm really looking for user input on this, I don't want to rewrite it and then have to rewrite it again because I stupidly forgot a much needed feature.
Well, I'm bored, so I'm going to rewrite the entire code (since it's rather clunky and the comments blow (as in they don't exist))
But, since rewriting code to do the same function as other code, using the other code as a template..without reusing it, is aggrivating and probably bad form (but i'm going to do it anyway!).
I'll start off by adding a feature, autodetect anyone? I shall attempt to make it so you can input "http://cad-comic.com/comics/20071022.jpg" And it will convert it to "http://cad-comic.com/comics/{lyear}{month}{lday}.jpg" automagically.
Obviously depending on how I do it this could take 1-5 seconds and a lot of code weight...So I'll take my time perfecting it.
Update: I got sidetracked while writing this, and before submitting finished the first draft of an autodetect function, it searchs for the placements of month day and year, so comics that increment numbers aren't going to work...yet.
Now, just the 'backend' is completed, meaning I have to hook it up to display stuff which isn't nescesarily my fortay..I also have to do some stuff that happens in the event of a complete url is not found ect. I also noticed I never made code to allow for a day that didn'
I'm not sure if this problem has been addressed, but how do you widget the ones using numbers? I have problems getting Questionable Content Here are the ones i've created, if anyone likes these comics.
Pick your favorite, right-click the image and "Copy image address" to get a direct link. (If this doesn't work: View->Source and find ".gif" until you hit the cartoon link.) Paste and edit to a format similar to the ones above.
: do you have javascript disabled or is your computer time off? the widget uses your computers time and javascript to find out what date it is.
Edit - Nevermind looks like the comic pages i linked to aren't updating anymore (no fault on the widget) I'll look around and see about putting on new sites for the favorites
Clicking the next arrow just brings it back to the same day and I almost always turn my computer off when I'm not on it so the battery doesnt die. Right now, the first 3 comics (Adam, BC, and Boondocks) are doing this and have been doing so since the day before Halloween. I tried deleting and reinstalling the widget and it's still only showing comics up until 10/30.
Tmchenry, you can wait, no prob., I just wanna see something new of the Comics Widget. Something like a beta-Version of 0.5. So let's wait, if shadowk is hearing our prays for a new version very soon!
At any rate, if you get it out by the time summer rolls around I'll actually have some time to read all my webcomics. Take your time, make the best possible comic browser you guys can.
