A Fly! V1.0 Jul 8, 2009 12:26:58 AM

Ahh! There is a fly on your computer screen!

Trick people into believing that there is a real fly on your computer screen.

When you open this widget, right click on the fly and select "always on top". This will hide the fly button on your taskbar. It will also prevent your fly from being cover up when you are using a window. To be really convincing that this is a fly, scroll up and down on a webpage (the fly will remain where it is). If you think the fly is too big just click on the fly and zoom out (numpad minus) to make it smaller (Thanks tinhoy for this hint).

Neat trick to do when people are around:
Pretend to kill the fly with your finger.

Cool things about the fly:
Its wings are semi-transparent like on a real fly.
It works great, anywhere you place on the computer screen. However, I would not recommend it over pure black areas.

I really like your idea about the fly flying away. I decided to have the fly fly away. I like this widget because I can get creative with it. If you leave this widget on normal mode and you pretend to kill the fly. During this motion, you click the mouse. The fly will disappear and people actually think you killed it. If you have some black clay or anything that looks like the inside of a fly on your fingure before you start. You can be really convincing. I tried this on my brother and he was really scared when I tried to touch him with my finger that had clay on it.

This widget rocks

I was thinking about animating it too, by getting it in SVG so I could use animation or javascript to time things that were more real like having its legs move. Also, using a bit of javascript to set a timer for when it flies away... and then later comes back, in the HTML, should be relatively easy if you can make it look like it is flying (maybe hide the legs, and blank out some wingtip would do it, but I don't know - I never tried to animate a fly before  ).

Anyway, I am looking forward to the fly that moves.

I wonder, if you have a couple of them, and they bump into each other, can they launch a third one? (In general that would be awful, but the first few times...)

I Found That If You Press The Asterisk Button On The Num Pad It Brings It Back To It's Original Size.

Thanks tinhoy for teaching me how to zoom out. I updated the info so everybody knows. I would have been a problem for me to make a fly that was the correct size for every type of screen.

By the way, I decided that I will update this widget in the future by two option, a stand-still option, and a movement option.

The stand-still option would be good for people who knows how a fly really behaves.

And the movement is for people who would easily believe that it is a real fly by seeing it move.

I will work on this after I finish my current project.

rox33rox33not11: Ah, I was thinking of movement to attract they people you're fooling. But if it's not realistic and just make the Fly easier to spot as fake, then it won't be a good addition.

lucideer: click on the fly and zoom out (numpad minus, i think) to make it smaller

Ya this widget was made on a vista laptop so the fky was the correct size in it. I'll make an alternative widget that is smaller to be compatible with a XP resolution, As I am writing this, a fly landed on my computer screen. It was walking around and it flew away. That backs up what I said in the previous post.

After I finish my current widget project "Widdles". I start on SIM Fly, A smaller fly that actually moves. However it will not be realistic,

You should make it smaller and make it move.

This is excellent. But I think it's currently slightly too big to be a realistic fly (the type of fly in the image is a little smaller in real life I think).

Although I suppose that probably depends on your screen resolution doesn't it... mine's 1280x800.

Ya, I was thinking about adding animation but the problem is. When flys land on a computer screen, they stay still. If they rub there arms, they are about to fly away. Look at a fly when it lands on a window, it stands completely still.

This widget is AWESOME!!!

Cool...any thoughts on making some occassional animations like rubbing its arms or moving around a little?
