eduMap provides a fun way to learn the location of countries, states and capitals. Includes multiple maps, high scores and different playing modes.
Always wanted to learn the location of each African country? How about capitals of U.S. states? Maybe you never had a chance to learn all the names of all independent European nations since 1991?
The eduMap widget provides a fun way to learn the location of countries, states and capitals. Select either a full continent or a subsection of countries, then be quizzed on their locations. In the default mode, just hover over a country or state and discover its name, capital, area and population.
Different quiz modes are available to help you lean in a variety of ways. High scores are recorded on your system, based on percentage correct and completion time. 100% SVG based, so you can resize the widget to whatever size is preferred without any quality loss.
Currently Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the USA are available. More maps may be added in the future.
Optional languages are English, Russian and Finnish.
Wow~! Never thought widgets could be this nice~! I'm love to travel and this only gives a little bit of info on the country i'm about to visit like how big is the country, capital city, would be nice to learn about the culture and nice places to see to when you're there. =)форекс клуб своп http forexes ru
I found this widget to be very useful and it's been a great learning tool for me. It's just as awesome as the Stay Secure widget widgets.opera.com/widget/4495/ I'm still not sure which one I like more...
The numbers for the population and the area might be off by a bit from the official ones BUT thats not the problem I got with this widget. Make sure that these numbers are the same within the widget itself. For an example - Azerbaijan when viewed with the map set to Asia has 46,870 sq km and 3,845,127 population, when the map is set to Europe the numbers are different 86,600 and 8,581,487 respectively, which are the actual numbers. The same with Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Cyprus.
If your student at home is a louse at geography, just make sure he/she has this nifty little widget and you'll be amazed at how places like Zambia or Zimnbabwe creep into their consciousness when before they couldn't even tell whether they were living in Canton, Georgia or Canton, Oh-hi-Oh. Or, was that Canton, Kansas? I think it's Canton, South Dakota. Anyways, your geography-challenged kid should benefit from this neat little gajizmo. Good luck!
@Rahasampo - Thank you very much! Really appreciate the effort you put into that. I have added it to the latest version (together with a fix of Georgia's flag).

Here are some conflicting area data between eduMap, the english Wikipedia and the 2008 C.I.A. Factbook. The measurment is in square kilometers.
(country name: eduMap / english Wikipedia / 2008 C.I.A. Factbook)
Russia: 3 960 000 / 17 075400 / 17 075200
Ireland: 70 280 / 81 638,1 / 70 280
Norway: 324 220 / 385 252 / 323 802
Portugal: 91 568 / 92 345 / 92 391
Spain: 498 506 / 504 030 / 504 782
Italy: 301 230 / 301 338 / 301 230
Macedonia: 25 333 / 25 713 / 25 333
Slovakia 48 845 / 49 035 / 48 845
Austria 83 858 / 83 872 / 83 870
Romania: 238 391 / 238 391 / 237 500
Some of these differences could be explained by the exclaves, islands, disputed territories of a given country but it's still intriguing for me, how and who decides the area of state.
Very nice tool. One small suggestion is that I would change the Republic of Macedonia to FYROM which is the officiall (so far) name of that country. Thanks
@mycottoc - Thank you for that wonderfully relevant link to those excellent 456 edumap related opera skins. Please do tell us more about them.
@chp0522 - Yes, I was hoping someone would mention qqq in these comments. I've always felt it to be the lesser appreciated series of three consonents strung together.
@viduk - Thanks for reminding us all this "A error" is grammatically incorrect, where "AN error" is the correct way of referring to something gone wrong. However, you may want to consider adding a verb and some other words to that sentence if you with to convey some problem with this particular widget.
@mogtaba11 - My your mobile? You're my mobile? I'm your mobile? Are you saying there's a way for no cost television viewing on the mobile version of eduMap? Cool! Thanks for that contribution. Also, it looks like you forgot to add some link to somewhere. Might want to work on that. Oh, and try posting "ttt" or maybe "zzz" next time to make more sense.
@joefrank - Associating one religion with each country isn't particularly useful, I don't think. Though the date of independence might be useful to add at some point, yes.

Edit: Kosovo and Bahrain would be very good update.
You've done very good widget, keep up the good work and make it even better.
Maybe external language files would be good idea because this is getting so popular and always better to learn countries by your own language.
