A globe that you can rotate through three degrees of freedom by clicking and dragging. Use the handle to move the actual widget.
Technically not a true globe, but with 128 facets, who cares?
Now with night side shading!

EDIT: You could shave another 3kB off the widget by optimizing the close button PNG. It is only 15x45 but it is oversaved at 4kB! You could chop it down to an optimized 64 color PNG at about 1kB.
I wish Opera would distribute optimized version of these graphics in the first place...

-I've added 108 more triangles, so it actually looks like a proper globe now.
Surprisingly, there wasn't much of a performance hit in doing so. Worth a re-download.

-I've removed the visible seams with a little hack, at the expense of a little distortion.
-I spent the last hour researching the opera-2dgame context, and have speeded up the drawing a little.
