This widget is designed to help you find the information you need when planning a trip. The widget knows many place names and airports: when you type a name, it will display a box with suggestions - you can click the one you want. Just click outside the box to close it. There's also a map you can scroll and zoom with hotels, attractions and restaurants.
Features: - new: improved flight result display - you can now view more info on flights - new: improved map shows a short description and a more info link for items - new: flight search result can be now viewed inside the widget - Find information on destinations - Suggests popular destinations - Finds photos and other info through Flickr and WikiTravel - Search for plane tickets - Search for hotels - auto-suggest destination and airport names and hotel locations - a much better destination Info page - Zoomable and scrollable map with hotels, attractions and restaurants
This widget uses WikiTravel for the Info page. If you find that some place doesn't have much information, why not write about the place to http://wikitravel.org ?

That's odd. Shouldn't happen. I'll recheck the version numbers.
edit: fixed. I wonder why didn't anyone bother reporting it earlier. Been wrong since I uploaded 1.0 (forgot to update the file on my server )
Uploaded version 1.0 with improvements to map and flight result display.
Map now shows a short description for items when you hover the mouse over them and a link for more information which opens the Yahoo Travels page for the item with prices, reviews and more.
The flight search results show proper airports for round-trips and proper amounts of stops for all flights. You can also view more info on a flight, which will display a more detailed view on all stops and such.
For now, round trips display origin > origin because the final airport is the same as the first one, but I'm working on getting some more information visible. The Kayak API returns info on all stops, so I should have it ready soon'ish.
And as for the currency - As far as I know, Kayak's API does not support changing currency. However, as it's very badly documented, who knows if it actually does. I did play with the idea of possibly using google to convert the units since you can do a search like "10 USD in AUD" and it'll convert it for you. I'm going to see if implementing that is feasible.
Inline flight display work, it should have some more information about the number of stops, date: 1829ORD > ORDUS Airways12:1914:201 (30h 1m) USDBook this flight
This was a search for a flight from Chicago to Hong Kong.
And is it possible to have a preference for currency?
Version 0.9 up. Adds flight search result viewing inside the widget. It also fixes a bug that caused the suggestion box to sometimes show up in the wrong place and a bug that caused names with spaces appear with them replaced as underscores after searching.
The code for viewing hotel search results exists, but the Kayak API seems broken for that part so it doesn't work properly. When querying the API, it returns broken replies: No price and the booking link doesn't work... so it's quite useless. But if they fix it, I'll just enable the code again.
I have the flight search results integrated into the widget now. They will show in a neat list with info and a link to the booking site. It needs some testing and I also need to write the code to grab hotel search results, but that shouldn't take too long.
Hopefully I can release the version with the search results integrated in a day or two.
I just uploaded version 0.8 with a new map-feature. It uses the Yahoo Maps API and shows hotels, attractions and restaurants in the locations. You can use it for just looking at the map too, if you want
Version 0.7 uploaded. It adds auto-suggest boxes for destinations, airport names and hotel locations. It also enhances the Info-page and displays a lot more details there. Also, the search-problem reported by matejakezman is fixed thanks to a completely new search-code.
mikeoo92: Did you try my widget at all? The hotel-search does exactly that.
Here are some features I'm working on now: - Improved destination search, better details and no more weird results: done - Automatic suggest of destination names, airfields and hotel locations similar to the forms at www.kayak.com: done - Improving the Info page: in progress
I will probably get the improvements to the info page done tomorrow. When that's done, I'll release a new version with the updates.
After that I will probably try to get the flight and hotel search results right inside the widget instead of an external page, and I'll also look into any new ideas suggested by you.
matejakezman: That's probably an issue with the current way it looks up place names. Fear not, I'm working on a better version. In the meantime, try giving it a more specific name, such as "city, country"
bflyen: Good ideas. I've been thinking about including the flight and hotel searches into the widget, but I may have to write a proxy to run the queries through or something so it's slightly complicated. I don't know if actual tracking of flights is possible though.
There are probably railway-related services as well, but that would pretty much be country/area-specific so it wouldn't be very useful except for some people. Also, I checked a few sites with searches and they seemed quite complicated to parse. However, if you can find a service or an API that's easy to work with, I'll give it some thought.
It is a good start, some realtime info would make it even more useful: - flight tracker (would mean that you need to include the flight search results into the widget) - railway information (Amtrak for the US/Canada, Deutsche Bahn has information about most of the European network).
I can try to see if there is some general service/API for railways.
