Yahoo! MyWeb V1.0 2007/01/18 21:55:16

Yahoo! MyWeb Widget allows you to search and manage your MyWeb account without having to visit the site first.

Version 1.0 of this widget allows adding of new pages to your bookmarks, importing bookmarks from del.icio.us and exporting your current bookmarks to a HTML file.

SEARCH BOX

The search box on this widget searches Yahoo! MyWeb. It should search through all your bookmarks, your friends bookmarks, and everyone's bookmarks on Yahoo! MyWeb and show in a new window, your search results on hitting the 'Go' button or Enter on your keyboard.

ADD PAGE

At the minute, clicking on Add Page will allow you to add a page to your Yahoo! MyWeb bookmarks. However, this currently does it by bringing up a pop-up window. There's something to do with cookies and Yahoo! not liking people linking from external pages which means 9 times out of 10 you're going to have to log into Yahoo! first. I'll work on making this better.

IMPORT DEL.ICIO.US BOOKMARKS

If you are a del.icio.us user and wish to switch to Yahoo! MyWeb, this link helps you along. It should, like the Add Page link, open up a new window with instructions of how to import your del.icio.us bookmarks. It's a

Good widget but it's far too big on the screen.

i think it's great to develop a widget based on the Yahoo! MyWeb2 social bookmarking service. "MyWeb 2.0" (as in the Yahoo! service, not the "myth") has been my favourite service of the kind until i recently discovered that the Firefox "extension" for del.icio.us has been updated. if you've used the "new" del.icio.us firefox extension, only then might you understand what i'm about to ask-- rather, from my perspective on the matter.

the only reason i've recently "switched" to using del.icio.us again is because of the EXTREME EASE OF USE of the firefox extension. the xpi becomes integrated into the browser, basically "takes over" the bookmarks so that no longer are you accessing a local html file when adding / selecting bookmakrs, but the actual del.icio.us user account itself (well-- it still uses a local file, but not in the normal sense of the browser / html bookmarks interface). it basically turns Firefox into "Flock" in the sense that, with the click of one button "add bookmark" or "bookmark page", the dialogue offers the user to enter "tags", essentially making the tagged bookmarking method as easy as it could possibly be presented w/out directly linking to one's "brain".

Hey there Lori's Knight.

I've updated the Description with some instructions. In recards to your 'flashing on and off' reloading problem - I don't know why it's doing that. I can't seem to re-produce that error myself, either.

One possible suggestion is that when you get the pop-up window, right click, go to "Reload Every" and ensure that this feature is not enabled.

Okay, I just tried to use the widget to add a page and I got a pop-up window that asks me to log in to the My Web site. But, it keeps flashing on and off (or loading and reloading) and does not give me an opportunity to log in. Thus, there is no way for me to add a page with this widget, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having it.

This widget introduced me to Yahoo! My Web. I have Yahoo! Mail and didn't even know that the site existed. It looks intriguing from the five minutes I have perused it and it looks like this widget will save a lot of time and trouble, especially when importing bookmarks and pages to the site.
There are a couple of things I don't understand though and I hope the author or someone else can clarify, so that I might get maximum use out of the widget. 1. What is the entry box with the "GO" button next to it used for? 2. What is the purpose of exporting current bookmarks to an HTML file and how is it done?
I am a relative novice when it comes to these things and have found that certain assumptions are made about the users of these widgets (such as, they'll know how to use it, lol) and would like a little more manual-like instruction on some of the widgets and their use. Not all of them are intuitive, and of the ones that are, I'm sure I have missed out on their full capabilities due to not knowing some of the tips and tricks that can be done with them.
Having said all of that, I give this widget four stars for the time it saves by being a virtual shortcut. And I do not want t
