Repton Fusion V1.2 2007/01/12 1:41:09

WARNING - this widget makes heavy use of canvas graphics and needs a fairly powerful computer to run.

Note: much faster in Opera 9.5 Alpha!

The return of the retro gaming favourite!

This is a hybrid remake version of the three original Repton games, including the original levels! It even includes working sound effects (a widget first?)

Explore and dig through level after level of diamond-hunting puzzle gaming - and better still, get new levels delivered straight to your desktop automatically! New episodes and levels will appear in the listing dynamically, and load on demand.

Repton is a side-scrolling action puzzle game, where the objective is to clear each level of diamonds by collecting them. To do so, you must dig through the earth, dislodging rock traps and eggs, caging lost spirits, opening safes and dodging marauding monsters.

Controls are: cursor keys to move, Space to pause, and M and H for Map and Help respectively, or use the buttons in the bottom-right of the widget. Remember to use the Map and Help facilities to find your way around.

Nah, Repton was made independently from Boulderdash - although the author was inspired by what he'd read of Boulderdash, he'd never actually played it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repton_(computer_game)#Games_that_are_not_Repton_clones

You're all copykittens. You see, *I* played the game concept, when I was a kid, which was Boulderdash on the Commodore 64. Looked a little something like this in 1984:

Check out the rest of the webpage http://www.bd-fans.com/index.html

And thanks for the nostalgia.

Actually, I still have a full episode of Repton 3 to duplicate, the hardest level set, plus a whole bunch of add-on packs, which are hopefully going to have new graphics.

And don't even get me started on Repton 2 - now that one will blow your mind. The whole game is one continuous level, broken up into multiple areas.

the madness has passed. i do not have to perseverate any longer on these tantalizing puzzles...

thanks, johnny.

i'm on to the very last level now... it doesn't appear to be too bad, as long as Repton keeps his head and doesn't spaz with the spirits and monsters in tight quarters...

発言者 lmp741, # 2007/08/21 23:41:37

hey johnny---

thanks for posting back. i finally (just now) completed the "which way now?" level. eeh gads! that center portion was going to be the death of me if i did not complete it. i figured out the rest of what i needed to do, but it really doesn't matter if you complete the bottom portion last as long as you have enough time to avoid the fungus. i kept most of it contained with boulders so and then finished off the center in case i blocked the bottom exit.

i had started the "gates" level, and actually completed that while still trying to figure out "which way now?". i am on to the "bird of play" to see what i can do there. seems like another level where it matter what order you complete each little area.

thanks for the link and most especially for this extremely diversionary little widget.

i would love to see if someone could make one for some other arcade greats, like Galaga (one of my favorites).

thanks again.

Hi Imp741, I must admit I haven't been checking these comments in a while since the comments sort of tailed off!

For anyone looking for tips, you could try http://www.stairwaytohell.com/gamehelp/solution-repton3-ms.txt - it contains walkthroughs for all the Repton 3 levels. Because they're built for the original 80s version, you'll see references to timebombs and time capsules and crowns, just ignore them. This level is listed as 1-H - they originally didn't have names, just numbers. Also note that the passwords are different!

If I remember rightly, the bottom area of this level is the last place you should enter. Also remember that you don't have to use every transporter.

well well.

which way now, indeed. twice i have successfully cleared the "big maze" in the middle of the level, only to exit the bottom of the maze and stymie myself at the entrance to the bunch of diamonds leading back toward the starting point of the level.

so disappointing after getting through the big maze.

i will keep trying and posting my frustration / success here, even though it is becoming more my personal gamelog diary than a discussion.

ta!
:D

ok, finally made it to "Which Way Now?", the last level on the Prelude episode. damned if i know the answer to that question... this is the most challenging level so far.

seems like noone is posting here anymore, :frown: but i gotta say, very excellent widget!

IF anyone does decide to post and has any insight into how to get through the maze of boulders and diamonds, i would ge very happy to hear some pointers.

発言者 lmp741, # 2007/08/16 23:37:24

hrrrrrm....

made it "Morning Glory", level 3 of Repton 3: Prelude. i captured all spirits, vanquished all monsters, and cleared all diamonds except for two areas:
lower left area has a 9-square with three diamonds and 3 rocks.
upper central area, which looks like once yer in, there's no way out.

i saved the upper central area for last because of the blockade-after-entry issue. however, i cannot seem to find a method for escaping the 9-square after collecting all 3 diamonds. either i block myself in or block in diamonds.

i suppose i could go for the block-in, let another boulder drop on me, and hope that the next life puts me outside the block-in and then go for the 9-square, but something tells me that won't work either.

anyone have any ideas?

woot! finished episode 1 finally!

thanks again for a most excellent widget! and thanks to you i am a complete addict now....

ok i really need to see what earth Repton has dug through vs. what is undisturbed earth. it would also be helpful to see in the map view as well; it could inform decisions about the routes to take and when.

this is such an addicting game!

発言者 lmp741, # 2007/08/13 18:26:21

armed with this incredible discovery (see above) Repton has completed the mighty terrapin level (lol)

発言者 lmp741, # 2007/08/10 2:13:39

EDIT: i just realized that earth actually block rocks from beings moved sideways (DUH). so if you need to move a rock 3 spaces left, make sure you went all the way over there. for some reason, earth that has been removed looks the same as earth that hasn't: black. am i missing an image file or color setting or something? basically, there is no way to tell where you have been vs. where you havent!

****
kudos galore for the approriate use of jagged graphics! and the gameplay is amazing, so much more than i would have expected from these newfangled widgets!
****

i just found this and i am a complete addict. i must say i never saw this game (yes i am more than old enough!) but it is timeless. i find it a bit more difficult than loderunner, of which it reminds me a bit.

i am embarassed to say that i am stuck on terrapin level and i cannot make it through either of the first levels of the two episode 3 series: i do get very close (down to one diamond in opening movement [prelude]), but the gates level [toccatta] stumps me with the major boulder field in the lower left; without the key, you are basically all done.

terrapin stumps me with the lower left most triple boulder and the double set in mid lower that traps you inside, unless those are supposed to be the last ones to get. if that is the case, i also cannot figure out how to get the one diamond under the single boulder that is between the 4-square in the upper right unless it is a life sacrifice...

i will keep puzzling away and see what happens. hopefully my eyes wont fall outta my head!
