Time and Date 1.32 V1.32 2008/02/15 16:47:40

A customizable calendar widget with events and reminders.

It is now easier than ever to translate the Time and Date widget!

What's new in v1.32:

  • Complete translation to greek.
  • Several minor bug fixes and code improvements.
  • Some CSS improvements.
  • Updated some of the language files.

I want to ask the developer of this program: what became of Central-fixation.com. Is it ever going to return?

Excellent. Thank You

Hi. It's great!!!!!
But it would be MUCH MORE userful if it will use data from Google Calendar (save and load from there). If it's possible :-|

Hi! Just a short idea about the HTML tags: Why not use bbcode or a smaller set with the same syntax? <- Ups, even these comments know bbcode...

: The iCalendar URLs should be able to download automatically if you enter the correct URL into the import field in the Import/Export window. It won't however follow redirects. I looked into this some time ago, but then I concluded that it wouldn't be possible to follow redirects. This might have changed in later versions of Opera. I guess I'll have to look into this again.

: This sounds strange. I haven't tested the widget in 9.24 for a while. But it used to work in 9.24, and I can't see why it still shouldn't do that. Perhaps you should try deleting the widget, and reinstall it, if you haven't yet tried this. If the problem still persists, please contact me again and I will look further into it.

: Thanks for your suggetions. Allowing html tags in the format strings would be very easy to implement. I didn't implement it in case people should enter stupid phrases such as: "</html>TC</b>" (I'll guess they better blame themselves if they were to do something like this!). But I'll see what I'll do - allowing all html tags would be the easiest to do, but perhaps I'd be better off allowing just some tags.
I'll try to include the support for the iCalendar reminder time too in the next version. (The problem is not getting the reminder time from the iCalendar file - the problem is what to do with the user interface in the Event window, as this will lead to events having reminders different from the ones that are listed in the drop-down box.)

rkm 作 , # 2008/03/17 11:14:37

: Hello again:smile: Thanks for pointing out this problem. I will try to fix that in the next version. I might try to restrain the widget position an all sides, whenever there is enough screen space for it (the reason I didn't do that from the beginning, is because some screens are too small to fit the entire widget inside the screen space). There are other things I can do as well. I might consider not exporting the lockedPosition variable, or I could consider exporting the last used widget position.

Thanks for your comments everyone:smile:
Sorry I'm so late to respond to some of them.

: Are you sure you clicked in the right place? Look at the first picture in the help blog post. You should be clicking at where the date is displayed (at the bottom left in that picture). Clicking on the entry in the Windows task bar won't help. Most "Windows" windows have minimize/restore/maximize options, like you say, but not all. And as widgets are made to be always visible, I don't know if it would be right to implement this for widgets (so I personally don't think this is a flaw in the widget-design):

rkm 作 , # 2008/03/17 10:51:23

a good widget. it would be perfect if the icalendar urls could optionally be downloaded automatically

javy_tahu 作 , # 2008/03/16 12:22:14

rkm, your new version seems again to be a hit. Yet I cannot use it. Installation was fine, however the window to write in dates does not open. Am I to upgrade from 9.24 to ne latest version?

AlineG 作 , # 2008/03/10 14:59:43

Hi! Your widget has become indispensable to me  It makes my life easier. I have some propositions that could improve it further (at least for me):
- would it be possible to add HTML formatting code in the format strings, like <b>TC</b>. Right now those characters are escaped.
- for iCalendar import the reminder is automatically put 1 day before the event. I'd like to have the reminder set from the actual imported data (e.g. 15 minutes before):
BEGIN:VALARM
TRIGGER:-PT15M
ACTION:DISPLAY
DESCRIPTION:Reminder
END:VALARM
or have a setting where we can set a default time for the reminder in such cases.

Thanks again for a great widget!

Hello rkm, having steady updates here is very valuable, so I first want to say thanks once again!

Second, I have one more for the ToDo-list: You may consider a "restrain position" for the whole settings-window. I have "lock position" active and after launching the new version (that started about in the screen's middle) and importing my settings, I had the following problem:The settings-window reached beyond the upper screen border, so I could not change the "lock position". And of course I couldn't move the window due to the "lock position". Of course, it worked with blind-TABbing and cursor

Third, writing this comment, I realized that the advanced settings are still in English. But as I tried to update the translations for German, I could not find the appropriate strings in the translation-helper. Greetings!

Single-clicking doesn't work here and I can't seem to find a way to maximize it either.

Shouldn't all "Windows" windows have minimize/maximize options anyway? Guess that's a flaw in (Opera's) widget-design...

_Grey_ 作 , # 2008/02/19 20:41:13

Thanks for your comments:smile:

: It should work just single-clicking (with the left button) to restore the widget once it's minimized.

rkm 作 , # 2008/02/15 16:57:40

Looks like a very, very handy tool to have; great work on it! Although I consider myself a reasonably "tech savvy" person, am I the only one who is so dense that they can't figure out how to expand the window, once it's minimized? There's no little "arrow" that I can see, nor does double-clicking expand it, or right clicking produce that command in the few options presented. How do you expand this puppy...? :-)

nice job best calender EVER MADE in opera! (allmost all other, calenders dosen't have an event button )
again nice job!

Thanks, that line did the trick for the months. Again good work.

Don't worry about the speed, maybe it's my invention, I hadn't used it for a while before I upgraded and now the old version is gone (I even removed it maniacally from the bin P:) so I can't really test. Most likely I made that up myself.

Japofran 作 , # 2008/01/28 13:05:47

The last comment was cut off before the end. Here is the last part of the post:

About the latest version feeling slower than the previous one - I haven't noticed this myself. I can't really see why that should be either. The speed will oftentimes be dependent on how many other tabs/widgets you have open at the same time, but if the new version of Time and Date really is slower than the old one, I think it must be due to the extra memory that is required for the Advanced Settings tab.
