Stay Secure, Opera application V1.83 2010/03/10 9:53:46

Keep your eye on the security of popular Web browsers.

WARNING: The development of this widget by me is OVER. Some parts of it or the whole widget may be broken. I cannot remove my widgets, broken or not, once they are uploaded thanks to awesome Opera Software policy ("No, you can't delete your own widgets"). So there you go.

Also from now on my code and graphics in this widget is released into public domain.

***

This widget shows the security status of the latest versions of IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari. The bars represent how dangerous is the worst unfixed hole (not the number of holes) - the lower a bar, the better security. The data about the vulnerabilities is loaded from Secunia site. It's refreshed once per hour.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The widget by itself DOES NOT make you more secure or protect you from anything. This is a general information accurate only for the latest versions of the browsers. Always use the most current version of your browser and install security patches!

Compact, attractive, and does what it says on the tin! Thumbs up!

No, not using proxy, it's obviously a fault with me/my computer, ill let you know if/when I get this fixed.

squeebee 作 , # 2006/07/04 23:39:38

I don't know, maybe you use a proxy?

grafio 作 , # 2006/07/04 20:23:56

Nope, I've left it for over 10 mins, restarted my computer, Opera and the widget, I have also refreshed the widget (f5) and left it for a further 10 mins (im on an appauling 512k connection)?

squeebee 作 , # 2006/07/04 19:43:23

Loading the security info may take 5-20 seconds, depending on your connection (it has to load 5 pages in the background). If nothing happens after 30 seconds, try to reload the widget (press F5). I'll try to make it faster in the next version...

grafio 作 , # 2006/07/04 13:53:43

All I seem to get is a 'Loading...' message in the top left hand corner and no further information? any help? Thanks!

p01, the bars don't represent the number of holes, but how bad is the worst unfixed security hole in the browser.

5 bars = there is at least one *extremely* critical security hole, 4 bars = at least one *highly* critical security hole, 3 bars = ...*moderately* critical..., 2 = ...*less* critical..., 1 = ...*not* critical..., 0 bars = no holes at all.

So Safari has 2 security holes, but not as dangerous as Konqueror

nice and clean widget.
Not really useful as we all know the most and less secure browsers

One detail though. As of now it appears exactly like on the screenshot above, but it says "1 security hole" for Konqueror which graph has 2 bars, and "2 security holes" for Safari which graph has 1 bar.

mike9k, my intention was to make a widget that would inform you if Opera has some unfixed security holes (if the security bar lights up, it means it has at least one). I think it might be useful. I added other browsers just for a comparision.

The security info is taken from www.secunia.com, which is the most accurate database of security problems IMHO.

grafio 作 , # 2006/07/04 1:57:53

I dont think this widget is very useful at all, is its info even accurate? Anyway, i didn't like this widget and I dont see why u guys like it...
Edit: Opera has 0 security holes, yet Firefox has 4? I doubt it...
Edit 2: I apologize for my criticizm, but I dont really trust the results it gave me, for example: I had my Firefox's security updated A LOT, and i haven't updated my Opera's security at all, and have gotten a bit more pop-ups in then in Firefox, and then this widget tells me Opera has no security holes, so I didn't think it was very good...
Edit 3: I didn't just look at the bars, i hovered over them, and STILL, 4 any-size holes vs. 0? It still doesn't seem right...

mike9k 作 , # 2006/07/04 1:18:45

Nice!

FataL 作 , # 2006/07/03 21:29:04

very cool, it's good to see that opera is the most secure! :D

MrBlueSky 作 , # 2006/07/03 11:51:18
