Keep your eye on the security of popular Web browsers.

This widget shows the security status of the latest versions of IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari. The bars represent how dangerous is the worst unfixed hole (not the number of holes) - the lower a bar, the better security. The data about the vulnerabilities is loaded from Secunia site. It's refreshed once per hour.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The widget by itself DOES NOT make you more secure or protect you from anything. This is a general information accurate only for the latest versions of the browsers. Always use the most current version of your browser and install security patches!

The problem with this widget is that it seems to always report on the latest version of Opera, not on the one you have installed.

It happened to me that I hadn't installed the very latest Opera version. As it turned out, my installed version had a security hole, but this widget wouldn't report it because it referred to the newer Opera release, where the hole was fixed.

mike9k: Opera is the most secure web browser, period. This excellent widget shows it to you. Now, maybe you wish the world was different, but this is hardly the widget's fault. You can find fault with the widget by reading Secunia's advisories or simply searching Secunia and proving that the widget is showing false information (you will most likely fail). But criticizing the widget because you like Firefox more is just silly.
This is a widget for Opera fans, as it keeps on showing you another way Opera is better. I am one of them and I like it. If you don't like Opera, you will most likely not enjoy this widget either.
I don't want to get into an argument as to why Opera is better than Firefox, but if you still like Firefox more, keep using it. There will always be people who prefer American cars to Japanese or German cars, no matter what, and that's quite alright.

drlaunch, as far as I remember this is a typo in Secunia site, which is loaded by the widget to get the security holes data.

There's a typo in the code that invokes an error message:

cjow88: almost all Widgets are resizable ; just click on them and use the Num Lock + (Plus) key to zoom and the - (Minus) key to shrink. Note these are the numlock keys : the + and - on the ordinary keyboard won't work.

I think it's a nice widget - kind of tells us what we already know but still.

PS Isn't it amazing how many post without reading earlier comments.

WOFall: Just select it in Widget Manager and press delete.

Actresspt: This widget wouldn't work on a normal website, because it uses cross-site XMLHttpRequest.

Cool! Is there a way to add that widget to a normal web site, so you can talk people into using Opera? It looks nice, it's small and it's very informative. I would gladly use that in my website.

Nice widget. Doesn't seems to work with Proxomitron through - then it just stays in Loading state. Maybe Proxomitron alters the code this widget parses?

Sorry, i've only just checked back. No it definately doesn't work for me.

What do I have to do to remove it COMPLETELY so i can try a fresh install?

A niche market for this one, certainly... but I like it

My comments... would love it to be a little bigger, cover both IE6 and IE7 and show the number without needing a mouseover.

Hey, I would like to say, interesting Widget. I do notice, contrary to what many fellow Firefox users say, security flaws listed for Opera. Yes, I am a Firefox user, and I am not surprised to see security flaws for Firefox either, you can't expect Mozilla to make everything perfect, same for Opera. I admit, Firefox isn't the best, but it works for me.

thanks this is great, two things, ive been looking for a site that displays security holes, and a application that displays the info. your widget did both for me. I was reading info about browser issues at ZDnet. im just wondering if you can add mozilla seamonkey to it, that was my browser and i am migrating from it.
