Who needs Samurai when you have Vikings? This fearsome warrior will remind you of anything that needs reminding. Double-click him to configure.
He demonstrates the new window.moveTo functions in Opera 9 weekly (8455 in Windows), and he can even accept and display messages from other widgets! (Demo widget available here) Message sending no longer available due to security upgrades in latest versions of Opera 9.
2) Lack of sound is an Opera thing, I believe. FIX: Close Viking Reminder if he's running. Locate the widgets folder (it'll likely be hidden) C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile\widgets
Then unZIP the viking_reminder-0_1.zip files into their own folder, say viking_reminder and drag the config.xml file onto Opera. Open 'Manage your Widgets' and delete the Viking Reminder entry that is not shown in bold (the zipped version)
The new Viking will be running, to give him something to do and a sound and, if all went well, he'll be able to shout at you
Hello, the viking does not work under Linux. I don't know why but when it starts running it gets stuck in the middle of the screen turning around in an endless loop. I've tried that many times and all of them drive to the same bug. I think you should check this widget under Linux. If it happens you don't have it installed, try a live CD like Knoppix to do so.
It must not be able to play the sounds when packed into the zip file. Don't know if there's a way round this until Opera decide whether to change this.
I get no sound even though I have sound in web pages enabled and can hear elsewhere. Great little widget but how do I get the sound? Maybe the sounds didn't download with the widget??
Just a note to say that the message-relaying feature is now inoperative in the latest versions of Opera 9 due to important security considerations. It won't be re-activated in its current form, and there's no information on when an alternative will be available.
The other features should behave as normal - there is no reason to re-download.
I do have the same problem (but it's in 9 build 8414), sound enabled, little guy runs like mad but no sound is heard on these shores... and now that I figured it: he should "talk" and tell me what I asked him to remind me about. Not even that happens with me. I have no future as a village raider, I know.
great ...i can already imagine a scenario in which i have all 3 of them on my desktop....at once but i guess in order to make that happen i would have to do it myself or maybe not?
@shadowk, already on it! The code is ready, but I've been holding off on clipping the graphics because it's a slow, menial process and I needed a rest!
jonnysaucepn: We will soon be issuing an update to the animation library with support for moveTo/moveBy/resizeTo/resizeBy, if you want to try that sometime.
Odd. One of the first things I did when writing it was make sure to detect overshoot - if a 'step' starts on the left of the target and ends up on the right, then it should automatically snap to the exact target X.
Maybe there's something else going on here - I've never seen that effect. Perhaps your PC/gfx card is faster than mine - maybe it manages to get redrawn before it gets snapped back.
If his 'home' is close to the right hand edge, he is unable to get back there after an alert. Just keep running
Aaaand there's a reminder missing...
"Tea's Ready!"
I've a good sound file for it too
chris :-)
