We're taking an extended vacation to work on a mystery widget What we have planned for the next version of the Comic widget are a complex new gui which if I tried my hand at would result in stick figures black white and purple coloring etc. So, shadowk will be doing that after we finish the 'mystery widget' and i'll get at the functionality as quick as I can.
I like this widget, really! I already added some own comics (mostly from u-comics, but also others like sherman's lagoon: http://www.slagoon.com/dailies/SL{syear}{month}{day}.gif) (today I recognized, that the toons on sunday are too big for your widget, scroll-buttons appear). But two little comics more would be nice: 1.) The Peanuts! I like them, my favourite toon. But I don't understand the system they use with their image-names. http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/peanuts/ 2.) Hägar the horrible. Can't even find a page, with a daily toon.
But anyway I like this widget. Great work and keep on making it better!
And is it in some way possible, that you can use a prefix like * instead of the .jpg, png etc? I found out that some comic's have changed the format of the pictures during they're comic's, or using sometimes a other format for them....
I'm really looking forward to the next release then!
And shadowk, as far as I know the only real way to get around the referral thing is to link directly to the page that has the comic and only showing the image and nothing else. Ie, "filter" the page as the browser processes it and only let the comic of the webpage show, still including the basic body tag and other things which aren't ultimately seen. I'm not sure if that's possible with Opera widgets , but if it allows for advanced enough code that does that (like java code) then it should be perfectly fine.
@aeridus, the reffeal problem can't be solved as far as i know...People use this thing to make sure no one steals there bandwidth, and it would be quite an achievement if you could find a way around using just js
aeridus you pretty much nailed on the head a lot of the things we brainstormed adding to the next major version and you also pointed out a lot of the reasons for our difficult giving support for all webcomics. As shadowk said, expect a new release soon.
I would also like the widget to keep track of the individual date that you last read each individual comic at and start you off there. I have some that I haven't read for a year, and others that I read every two weeks.
Keyboard shortcuts would also be handy, at least for the previous and next buttons.
Plus, is there a way to make the widget fullscreen at all (not the comic itself, but the height and width of the widget at least)? If possible, I just want it to expand to show as much of the webcomic as possible without becoming bigger than the monitor's screen.
And, no offense but I'd really like to be able to choose a custom logo for the upper left hand corner. If you could have the logo be a gif image that has a set name it would be easy to change.
And, good luck with overcoming the referral difficulty! I know they have it there for a reason, because then if an image is hotlinked onto a major forum and millions load it without any intent of actually reading it, that can cause trouble. Also, some webcomics like the ones at DrunkDuck use seemingly random hex numbers for each webcomic, they must use some kind of algorithm.

borismoser, i went looking for a few comics and i got linked to eh comics.com site. i thought the numbers in the middle were the issue numbers, but im not sure. i really hated that thought because pearls before swine is my favorite comic strip and the only site that has it is comics.com. meh!
The widget is 'supposed' to hold an infinite number of widgets (or however many entries the widgets.dat file is limited to) there seems to be a bug with that. As for schlock mercenary...they use 3 seperate images for sundays! it's insane and pointless at the same time lol. the images have a b and c at the end..should be possible I looked around for a bit at the end of may. In case anybodys wondering i've been busy at school and another widget project to update this...I might get a widget done by the end of next week..actually expect it then. Now that 9 is out of beta I suppose more people will be wanting this.
